Cleaning a Dog Sprayed By a Skunk

If your dog has been sprayed by a skunk, it is important to act quickly, especially if the spray hit their face or eyes.

Immediate Steps:

• Keep them outside: Prevent the oils from spreading into your home.
• Check their eyes: If there is redness, squinting, or excessive tearing, flush the eyes gently with lukewarm water or a sterile saline solution.
• The "Magic" Solution: Mix 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Use this to wash the dog's fur immediately after the incident.
