Understanding Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of your eye. For people who have cataracts, seeing through cloudy lenses is a bit like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window.
Cataracts are common in older people and develop slowly over time. Most cataracts are related to aging, though they can also be caused by injury, long-term use of certain medications, or existing health conditions like diabetes.
Symptoms to Watch For:
- Cloudy, blurry, or "foggy" vision
- Difficulty seeing at night
- Sensitivity to light and glare
- Seeing "halos" around lights
- Frequent changes in your eyeglass or contact lens prescription
